Georgia State Alumni Day: Full Circle Moments & Fresh Connections

What’s up, wonderful, amazing souls? I hope your day is filled with light, gratitude, and the kind of joy that makes you smile for no reason at all. Thank you for being here at Mariam’s Joyful Life. I truly appreciate you spending a few minutes of your day with me.

Today I’m sharing something personal and meaningful — our recent visit to Alumni Day at Georgia State University.

Alumni Day was such a refreshing experience. We went back to support the team, reconnect, and simply enjoy the atmosphere. Being in the club suites, watching the games with food, drinks, and great company — it was truly special.

There’s something powerful about being surrounded by people who once walked a similar path. Seeing former teammates — and even meeting some in person for the first time after connecting on social media — felt like a full-circle moment.

Honoring the Past (Even When It Wasn’t Perfect)

I’ll be honest with you. My experience when I actually played there wasn’t the easiest.

Not every relationship was smooth. I didn’t connect with everyone on the team. My experience with the coaching staff at that time wasn’t what I hoped it would be. When it was finally time for me to graduate, I was ready to go.

And that’s okay.

Because life teaches us something beautiful: time changes perspective.

Going back now as an alum feels different. The new coaching staff made intentional efforts to reconnect former players and rebuild that sense of unity and family that should have existed from the beginning. That effort means something. It shows growth. It shows vision.

And I respect that.

Supporting the Team — Win or Lose

We brought the whole family this time — my sweet husband Taylor and our kids — and we made it an experience. Both the men’s and women’s teams played… and neither one won that day.

But here’s the thing:

We still stayed.

We still cheered.

We still enjoyed ourselves.

That’s real team spirit.

Support isn’t just for victories. It’s for commitment. It’s for growth. It’s for showing up — especially when things don’t go perfectly.

And we weren’t in a rush to leave. That says everything.

Growth Feels Different

This was my second Alumni Day visit, and I can honestly say I’m looking forward to the next one. It feels lighter now. Healthier. More intentional.

Sometimes going back to a place where you once struggled can show you how much you’ve grown. You’re not the same person anymore. Your confidence is different. Your peace is different.

And that is powerful.

Let’s Talk

Have you ever gone back to a school, team, or organization you once struggled in?

Did it feel different? Healing? Empowering?

Or maybe you’ve played on a team before — do you stay connected?

I’d love to hear your experience. Share in the comments below.

Thank you again for being here. I truly appreciate you.
