Being at Ease: The Breakthrough That Comes When You Surrender and Trust God

What's up, wonderful, amazing, sweet, and lovely people! ❤️

How are you all doing today? I hope you're having a beautiful day and finding reasons to smile, no matter what life may look like for you right now.

Today, I want us to talk about something that I believe we all need a little more of in our lives: being at ease.

Not just looking calm on the outside while you're falling apart on the inside. I'm talking about experiencing genuine peace within yourself, regardless of what's happening around you.

Because here's something I've come to realize: being at ease starts from within.

Finding Peace Within Yourself

Have you ever noticed how easy it is to feel good when everything is going your way?

When the money is coming in, your plans are working out, your relationships are in a good place, and you're seeing the results you've been hoping for, it's much easier to feel peaceful.

But what happens when things aren't working out?

What happens when you've prayed about something, worked hard for it, done everything you know how to do, and you're still not seeing the results you want?

That's when being at ease becomes a real challenge.

I've learned that we cannot allow the outside world to dictate what's happening on the inside. We cannot allow circumstances, disappointing results, or other people's opinions to become the foundation of our peace.

Our strength has to come from somewhere deeper.

It comes from knowing that, no matter what happens, we're going to be okay. It comes from understanding that one disappointing moment doesn't define our entire lives and that a situation that looks difficult today doesn't mean everything is falling apart.

Sometimes, we need to take a step back, breathe, and remind ourselves that we don't have to figure everything out right this very moment.

We can be at peace even while we're waiting.

We can have joy even while we're working toward something we haven't achieved yet.

And we can trust God even when we don't understand what He's doing.

When Pushing Harder Steals Your Peace

Let me share something I've personally experienced.

There have been moments in my life when I've wanted something so badly that I pushed myself beyond what was healthy for me emotionally. I became desperate for a particular outcome. I kept pushing, trying harder, thinking more, doing more, and searching for ways to make things happen.

I believed that if I just worked a little harder, tried a little longer, or figured out one more thing, I would finally get the breakthrough I was looking for.

But do you know what happened during those moments?

I didn't have joy. I didn't have peace. Instead, I experienced frustration, stress, and the exhaustion that comes from feeling as though everything depends on you.

I was so focused on making something happen that I wasn't enjoying the life I was living in the present.

And that's something worth thinking about.

What's the point of chasing a particular outcome if the process of chasing it causes you to lose yourself along the way?

What's the point of working toward a better life if you cannot experience peace in the life you have today?

I'm not saying we shouldn't work hard. I'm not saying we shouldn't pursue our dreams, set goals, or take responsibility for our lives. Absolutely, we should do those things.

But there is a difference between working diligently and desperately trying to control every outcome.

One allows you to take action while maintaining your peace. The other can leave you feeling as though your entire world will fall apart if things don't happen the way you planned.

And I've learned that I don't want to live that way.

The Moment I Finally Let Go

There have been times when I reached a point where I simply couldn't push anymore.

I had done everything I knew to do. I had tried my best, explored my options, and given the situation so much of my energy.

Eventually, I found myself thinking, You know what? I've done everything I can do right now. I cannot keep doing this to myself. I'm going to let go.

And when I finally surrendered, something changed within me.

I felt peace.

For the first time in those situations, I wasn't consumed by whether I would succeed or fail. I wasn't constantly worrying about what would happen next. I wasn't trying to force the situation to unfold according to my timeline.

I just wanted my peace back.

I wanted to be able to breathe, enjoy my day, appreciate my life, and trust that God was still with me, regardless of the outcome.

And here's the part that really made me think.

The very thing I had been desperately chasing and pushing so hard for eventually happened more naturally after I stopped trying to force it.

Isn't that something?

Now, I'm not saying that every time you surrender, everything you want will immediately fall into place. Life doesn't always work that way, and surrendering isn't a formula for getting everything we desire.

But I have experienced how releasing the pressure can change my perspective, restore my peace, and allow me to move forward without the emotional weight I was carrying.

Sometimes, when we stop obsessing over the outcome, we can finally see our next step more clearly.

Sometimes, when we stop trying to control everything, we become more open to opportunities we couldn't see before.

And sometimes, the greatest thing surrender gives us isn't the outcome we wanted. It's the peace we were missing while trying to get there.

Why Is It So Hard to Surrender?

Now, here's a question I've had to ask myself: If surrendering brings me peace, why don't I do it all the time?

Why do I sometimes find myself returning to the same patterns of worrying, pushing, overthinking, and trying to make everything happen?

I think part of the answer is how we've been conditioned.

From a young age, many of us are taught to work hard, keep pushing, never give up, and do whatever it takes to succeed.

Our families, our communities, and society often celebrate the person who is always grinding, always busy, and always striving for the next big achievement.

We hear things like, "You have to work harder," "You have to want it badly enough," and "If you aren't moving forward, you're falling behind."

And while there is value in discipline, perseverance, and hard work, we can sometimes take these messages to an unhealthy extreme.

We start believing that if we aren't constantly doing something, we're not doing enough.

We feel guilty when we rest.

We become anxious when we don't see immediate results.

We start believing that everything depends on how hard we push, how much we sacrifice, and how perfectly we execute our plans.

But what if we need to learn a different way of living?

What if we can work hard without living in a constant state of pressure?

What if we can pursue our dreams without allowing them to consume our peace?

And what if faith requires us to recognize that, while we have responsibilities, we are not responsible for controlling every single detail of our lives?

That brings me to something I've been discovering.

Sometimes, the breakthrough isn't in grinding harder. Sometimes, it's in surrendering and letting go.

Wow! I can't believe I just said that, but it's something I genuinely believe we need to reflect on.

Let Go and Let God

As a person of faith, I believe there is something powerful about trusting God with the things we cannot control.

We can pray. We can plan. We can work. We can make wise decisions and take meaningful action.

But after we've done our part, we also have to learn how to release the outcome.

We have to trust God enough to stop carrying burdens that were never meant to rest entirely on our shoulders.

Proverbs 3:5–6 reminds us to trust in the Lord with all our hearts and not lean entirely on our own understanding, acknowledging Him in our ways.

Think about what that means.

We don't have to understand everything to trust God.

We don't have to know exactly how every situation will turn out before we can experience peace.

And we don't have to see the entire path ahead of us to take the next step in faith.

Sometimes, we want God to show us the whole picture before we feel comfortable moving forward. We want guarantees. We want timelines. We want to know that our efforts will produce the results we're hoping for.

But faith often means continuing to do what we can while trusting God with what we cannot see.

It means saying, "Lord, I'm going to do my best, but I'm not going to allow worry to consume me. I'm going to take the steps I know to take, and I'm going to trust You with the rest."

That is the kind of peace I want more of in my life.

Not a peace that depends on everything working out perfectly, but a peace rooted in my relationship with God.

A peace that reminds me I can face uncertainty without allowing fear to control me.

A peace that gives me permission to rest, smile, laugh, enjoy my family, and appreciate the present moment, even while I'm believing for something greater.

You Can Work Toward Your Dreams and Still Enjoy Today

One thing I want you to understand is that surrendering doesn't mean abandoning your dreams.

It doesn't mean giving up on your goals or sitting around waiting for something to happen.

It means releasing the desperate need to control the outcome.

You can still pursue that business you've been dreaming about.

You can still work toward buying your first home.

You can still seek a better job, improve your finances, build healthier relationships, and create a life that feels more aligned with who you want to become.

You can still pray for the things your heart desires.

But you can do these things from a place of peace rather than panic.

You can work because you believe your efforts matter, not because you're terrified that everything will fall apart if you stop for a moment.

You can take action because you have faith in the possibilities ahead of you, not because you're trying to prove your worth through constant productivity.

And you can rest without feeling as though you're falling behind.

Your life is happening right now, not just when you finally reach your next milestone.

Don't spend so much time trying to arrive at a better tomorrow that you forget to appreciate the blessings in today.

There is beauty in the journey, too.

There is joy to be found in the little things. There are moments with your loved ones to cherish, opportunities to laugh, and reasons to be grateful that have nothing to do with whether your plans are working out perfectly.

Don't put your happiness on hold until everything is exactly the way you want it to be.

Learn to live, love, and experience joy while you continue moving forward.

How to Practice Being at Ease Every Day

So, how can we begin to live this way?

Here are a few simple things I'm reminding myself to practice, and I hope they'll encourage you, too.

1. Do your best, then release the outcome.

Give your responsibilities the attention they deserve. Make the calls, submit the application, prepare for the opportunity, have the conversation, and take the next step. Then remind yourself that you've done what you can for now.

You don't have to mentally replay every detail or worry about every possible outcome.

2. Stop measuring your peace by your progress.

You are allowed to have a good day even when you haven't checked everything off your list. You are allowed to smile even when you're still waiting for an answer. Your circumstances do not have to be perfect for you to experience moments of happiness.

3. Make room for rest.

Rest is not a sign that you've failed. You are a human being, not a machine. Give yourself permission to pause, breathe, and enjoy the life you're working so hard to build.

4. Turn your worries into prayers.

When you notice yourself overthinking, take a moment to talk to God. Tell Him what's on your heart. Ask for wisdom, direction, and strength. Then remind yourself that you don't have to carry every uncertainty alone.

5. Bring yourself back to the present.

Instead of constantly worrying about what might happen tomorrow, pay attention to what is happening today. Appreciate what you have, spend time with the people you love, and look for the good that exists in this moment.

6. Remember that you don't control everything.

You can influence some outcomes, but you cannot control every person, circumstance, opportunity, or timeline. Accepting that reality can help you stop fighting battles that are outside your control and focus on the actions that are actually yours to take.

And most importantly, be patient with yourself. Learning to surrender is a process. There will be days when you trust easily and other days when worry tries to creep back in.

When that happens, gently remind yourself to return to faith, return to peace, and take things one step at a time.

Choose Peace Today

My wonderful, amazing, sweet, and lovely people, I want to leave you with this thought.

You don't have to spend your entire life fighting, striving, worrying, and pushing yourself to the point of exhaustion just to prove that you're doing enough.

You can be ambitious and peaceful.

You can be hardworking and rested.

You can have big dreams and still appreciate the life you have right now.

You can pursue what you desire while trusting God with what happens next.

And you can be at ease even when you don't have all the answers.

I've experienced moments when pushing harder left me frustrated, while surrendering allowed me to breathe again. Those experiences have reminded me that I don't want to sacrifice my joy in the pursuit of my goals.

I want to do my best, trust God, and let go of the things I cannot control.

I want to experience the journey, not just celebrate the destination.

And I want to remember that my peace is valuable, too.

So, whatever you're dealing with today, take a deep breath. Do what you can. Pray about what you cannot control. Trust God to guide you, and give yourself permission to release the pressure.

You don't have to figure out your entire life today.

You don't have to force every door to open.

And you don't have to let every disappointing circumstance determine how you feel inside.

Sometimes, you just need to surrender, trust God, and allow yourself to be at ease.

Let's practice doing our best without carrying the weight of the entire world on our shoulders. Let's stop allowing circumstances to steal our joy. And let's learn to trust that we can move forward in faith without living in constant fear of what might happen.

Because life is too precious to spend every moment worrying about the next one.

Have a beautiful day, everyone!

And remember, do your best, trust God, let go, and don't let anybody steal your joy! ❤️

With love,

Maryam

You Are Not Alone: Finding Hope and Healing in Difficult Seasons

Welcome back to Maryam's Joyful Life, my wonderful, amazing, sweet, and lovely people! I hope you are having an incredible day today—and remember, don't let anyone steal your joy.

Life can be unpredictable. Between multitasking, keeping up with daily goals, and even trimming a wiggly baby's sharp little nails, sometimes we find ourselves sitting down, catching our breath, and realizing just how heavy life feels.

If you are going through a difficult season right now, I recorded a heart-to-heart video while taking a break from my daily study goals just for you. Let's talk about it.

The Lie of the "Forever" Pain

When you're in the middle of a hard season—whether it's heartbreak, stress, frustration, or overwhelming grief—it often feels like it's never going to end. It can convince you that this painful moment is going to define who you are forever.

I'm here to tell you straight from the heart: That is a lie.

Watch this video:

It is not always going to be this way, and this trial is not the end of your story. I've been through heavy, heartbreaking seasons where it felt like there was no way out. But keeping my hope alive, leaning on positive voices, and—most importantly—crying out to God changed everything.

Surrender and Healing

When things get tough, it's easy to fall into the trap of dwelling in silence, crying, or feeling overwhelmed. But isolation and despair only add to our pain and wear down our health.

True healing begins when we surrender. You don't need eloquent, perfect words to talk to God. You just need to open your heart and let it out:

"Lord, I don't know how to get through this on my own. I need your grace, your mercy, and your strength because this is too hard."

When you invite the Creator into your mess, the crushing weight of the problem starts to lift. You begin to think more clearly, your heart slowly heals, and you realize that nothing about your situation is too big for Him.

Your Breakthrough Is Coming

Take a look at me now—God is faithful! He has brought me through so much, and He will do the exact same for you.

  • Don't heal in obscurity: Bring God into your situation today.

  • Don't give up on yourself: Your pain has a purpose, and it has an expiration date.

  • Get ready to testify: God is working behind the scenes, turning things around for your ultimate good.

Hang in there, my friend. He is a good, good Father, and you are going to make it through to the other side.

Have an amazing rest of your day, keep trusting, and never let anyone steal your joy!

Rewriting Your Mental Tape: How to Break Bad Habits and Choose a New Life

What’s up, wonderful, amazing, sweet, and lovely people? How are you all doing today? I hope you’re having an amazing day and that you're not letting anybody steal your joy. Welcome back to Maryam's Joyful Life!

Today, let's talk about something that governs so much of our daily lives: habits.

Think about an old-school cassette tape recorder. When you record music onto a tape, it plays over and over again—that's what you get. For a long time, we thought changing a habit just meant recording something on top of the old tape. But what if you could completely erase, delete, and shatter that old recording once and for all, replacing it with something infinitely better?

Breaking the Old Programming

We are creatures of habit. If your default habit is feeling small, feeling disrespected, or settling for less—and convincing yourself that struggling is somehow God's plan—you will naturally keep falling back into that old pattern.

Let me guarantee you right now: It is NOT God's plan for you to settle for less, suffer, or feel defeated.

That heavy feeling of inadequacy? It’s just an old mental recording. But you have the power to break it. You don't have to stay stuck in the same cycle of self-doubt.

The Power of Your Words

So, how do you break the record? You use the incredible power of your voice. The Bible reminds us that life and death are in the power of the tongue. When an old, limiting thought rises up—especially when you're trying to step out of your comfort zone and achieve something bigger than ever before—challenge it.

Speak life over yourself with bold declarations:

  • "I refuse to continue playing this old programming."

  • "I choose a different life of freedom, abundance, and breakthrough."

  • "I am capable, and I am the kind of person who achieves what I'm going for."

When you make a conscious decision to change the soundtrack of your mind from doubt to peace, joy, and success, miracles happen.

Push past your comfort zone today, shatter that old record, and start playing a brand-new track. Have an amazing day, keep walking in your power, and never let anyone steal your joy!

Breaking the Habit of Being Broken: Why You Must Stop Dimming Your Light

What's up, wonderful, amazing, sweet, and lovely people? It's a beautiful day today, and I'm super excited to be back with another exciting post here on Maryam's Joyful Life. I really hope you share this one with your friends and family because I truly believe this message can break millions of people free from mental and relationship bondage.

Today, we are talking about a trap so many of us fall into as we heal: staying loyal to being broken just because people expect you to remain that way.

The Pull of the Past

Have you ever noticed that as you make up your mind to change your life—and things actually are changing and getting better—there is a strange resistance? You might be doing fantastic, but whenever you are around certain people or even just think about them, you are immediately transported back to when you were struggling.

It feels like an invisible rope pulling you back to the exact place you fought so hard to break free from.

These are usually the people who saw you in your most devastating situations. They witnessed your pain, your heartbreak, and your suffering. Over time, they got used to seeing you that way. Now that you are healing, walking in your purpose, and experiencing breakthrough, their expectations—sometimes conscious, sometimes completely unconscious—make you feel like you need to downplay your growth. You feel pressured to slip back into that old pattern just to make them feel comfortable communicating with you.

You Owe No Loyalty to Your Pain

Hear me clearly on this: You have absolutely no reason to stay loyal to your past brokenness.

You do not have to put on the heavy cloak of shame, pain, or struggle just to make others feel secure around the new you. Changing your life and becoming a better, more whole person is one of the absolute best things you can do for the world.

There are far too many people bound by the past, living their entire lives trying to please others. They keep doing the very things that are ruining their lives and keeping them from fulfilling their destiny simply because it's familiar.

That should not be you. Be the example of the person who shatters that trend. The people who truly change the world and make it better are the ones who decide to break the old programming. They choose a different path. They find a way out of no way.

Your Permission to Shine

If you have been waiting for a sign that it is okay to fully step into your new life, this is it. Today, you have my permission, you have God's permission, and you have the universe's permission to:

  • Be better and be different.

  • Fully embrace the new you.

  • Be wonderful and amazing.

  • Enjoy the blessings currently pouring into your life.

  • Unapologetically celebrate your victories, your breakthroughs, and your changes.

You survived something big. Now, keep rising. Do not let people who are too scared to do something new keep you from embracing your new life. You are exactly the kind of person who changes the world. Embrace it!

You are doing great, and because you choose to stand tall, millions of people are going to rise up alongside you. Consider this your ultimate confirmation: Do not dim your light to make people who have turned their lights off feel comfortable. It is your light that illuminates the path for us all.

Have an amazing day, keep shining your beautiful light, and whatever you do, don't let anyone steal your joy!

Walking Away From Rejection: Protecting Your Worth and Trusting God’s Plan

What’s up, wonderful, amazing, sweet, and lovely people? How are you all doing today? I hope you are having an amazing day, and whatever you do, don’t let anybody steal your joy!

Welcome back to Maryam's Joyful Life. I decided to sit down right here—no fancy studio setup, no makeup, just raw and authentic mom life—to talk about something so many of us face: walking away from rejection and trusting that God is working behind the scenes.

The Sting of Working Hard and Coming Up Short

As many of you know, alongside my travel business, I am a licensed Realtor here in Texas with Keller Williams in the Permian Basin. I’ve been putting in the work since June, and these past 90 days have brought close calls, heartbreak, and real rejection.

Recently, I had a situation where I gave everything. I went above and beyond, sacrificing weekend time with my sweet husband and kids to do research, answer questions, and show up. But in the end, they didn't sign my buyer representation agreement—they took my hard work and went with someone else.

When the listing agent followed up, people asked me, "Why didn't you ask them why they didn't pick you?"

My answer was simple: I didn't ask, and I won't chase.

My actions proved my commitment. If people see your dedication and still choose to walk away, let them go. You are far too valuable to beg anyone to see your worth or lower yourself to demand an explanation.

Watch the video:

God’s Protection in Disguise

Rejection hurts—it can feel heavy and heartbreaking in the moment. But every single time something hasn't worked out in my life, hindsight revealed that God was saving me from stress, toxic environments, or problems I couldn't see.

Why cry over a shack when God is preparing a mansion for you?

Scripture tells us that all things work together for good to those who love the Lord. That means:

  • Closed doors are divine protection: He is guarding your peace and your future.

  • Seed time is never wasted: The effort, love, and diligence you sow will produce a harvest, even if it doesn't come from where you initially expected.

  • You are not a quitter: Disappointment may sting, but it makes the eventual breakthrough and testimony that much sweeter.

Business Wisdom and Healthy Boundaries

Moving forward, I am stepping into a new strategy. Experience is the best teacher, and I’ve learned that setting clear boundaries isn't selfish—it's wise.

From now on, I don't work for free. Before doing deep research or answering detailed property questions, clients must sign a buyer representation agreement. If someone already has an agent, I'll kindly direct them back to their representative. Setting boundaries protects your time, your energy, and your family.

Whether in business or personal relationships, stop chasing people who treat you like you're disposable. Fall in love with yourself again. Chase your growth, trust God's timing, and know that what is truly meant for you will never pass you by.

Keep moving forward, hold your head high, and never let anyone steal your joy!

Looking Ahead: How to Build a Vision That Transforms Your Reality

What’s up, wonderful, amazing, sweet, and lovely people? How are you all doing today? I hope you are having an amazing day, and I pray that nothing steals your joy! Welcome back to Maryam's Joyful Life. It is a gorgeous day today, and I am so excited to dive into this topic with you.

Today, let's talk about looking ahead, building a clear vision, and preparing yourself for something truly good.

The Magnetic Power of What You Picture

When you intentionally look ahead and begin picturing the impact you want to make, the blessings you want to receive, and the life you want to lead, your steps naturally start aligning with that reality.

When you become truly enamored with where you are going, something incredible happens: your environment begins to clear out.

The habits, mindsets, and even people that are no longer aligned with that elevated vision will naturally begin to fall away. Don't fight that release! It simply makes room for the right connections, opportunities, and blessings to flow in.

Feel It Before You See It

I want to challenge you today to build a vision that genuinely excites you and gets your heart racing.

  • Engage your senses: If you're envisioning a stunning dress or outfit, don't obsess over the price tag right now. Picture yourself wearing it. Feel how comfortable, radiant, proud, and joyful you feel knowing it fits you like it was tailor-made for your frame. Embody that feeling right now.

  • Redefine your relationships: Picture yourself surrounded by people who truly honor and respect you. Seek partnerships where love is effortless, mutual, and supportive—a true two-way street where you champion each other’s dreams, not a dynamic that feels like draining labor.

  • Claim freedom and abundance: Picture financial peace, walking into spaces with confidence, and living unburdened by past limitations.

As you consistently visualize yourself living your best life, your outer world begins to mold itself to match the blueprint in your mind.

Refuse Mediocrity and Own Your Worth

You are worthy. You are capable. You are powerful.

From this moment forward, stop defining yourself by your current circumstances. Lift your eyes above where you are standing today. Picture yourself excelling, thriving, and moving through life surrounded by genuine love and high standards.

Refuse to tolerate mediocrity in your thinking or in your environment. Build a vision so clear and compelling that your future has no choice but to arrive.

Keep looking ahead, keep your standards high, and never let anyone steal your joy!

Step Into Your Power: Reject the Lies and Reclaim Your Worth

What's up, wonderful, amazing, sweet, and lovely people? How are you all doing today? I hope you are having an incredible day, and I pray nobody steals your joy! Welcome back to Maryam's Joyful Life. It is a gorgeous day today, and I am so excited to be here with you because beautiful, extraordinary things are unfolding.

Today, I want to call you back to your power.

Rejecting the Lie of "Worthless"

Perhaps right now you are feeling low, pitiful, or defeated. Maybe you are surrounded by people or circumstances that whisper—or outright tell you—that you are worthless. When negative energy, harsh words, and emotional storms surround you daily, it can feel like you are being forced to accept that narrative as truth.

Reject it immediately.

You are not worthless. You have immense, immeasurable value. The God who created you crafted a living masterpiece, and His spirit resides within you. You have been given the divine authority to choose an abundant, joyful life, regardless of what you have experienced up to the exact moment you found this post.

There is nothing small about you. You are extraordinary, and your story is still being written.

Rewrite the Narrative With Your Words

Transforming your life doesn't always start with a massive leap—it begins with one simple decision to change your spoken narrative:

  • When they call you worthless, declare that you are blessed.

  • When circumstances call you forgotten, declare that you are chosen.

  • When fear says you are weak, declare that you are called by God and deeply loved.

No weapon formed against you will prosper. The desires for peace, purpose, and good things planted in your heart are valid, and God's plan for your life is not about to stop now.

Cut off the Venom and Walk in Royalty

Give yourself a much-needed break from the people who constantly bring up your past mistakes, rehash your failures, or pour the venom of negativity into your space. You have zero obligation to tolerate that toxicity any longer.

Break away from those voices. Surround yourself with truth-tellers who speak life over you—people who recognize and call out the royalty on the inside of you. You are a child of the Most High, meant to leave an undeniable mark on this world.

Remember who you are today: there is nothing ordinary about you. You are extraordinary.

Walk tall, speak life, and never let anyone steal your joy!

Homemadew Olive Garden-Style Italian Breadsticks: Soft, Fluffy, and Buttery

Have you ever enjoyed those soft, warm, buttery Italian breadsticks at Olive Garden and wished you could make them at home? Well, now you can! Today, I’m sharing a homemade Olive Garden-style Italian breadstick recipe that’s soft, fluffy, and brushed with delicious garlic butter.

These breadsticks are perfect for serving alongside spaghetti, chicken Parmesan, lasagna, Alfredo pasta, or your favorite Italian meal. They’re also delicious on their own with marinara sauce for dipping!

The best part is that you can make them with simple ingredients you may already have in your kitchen.

Watch the video:

Ingredients for Homemade Italian Breadsticks

For the breadsticks:

  • 1½ cups warm water
  • 2¼ teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 cups bread flour, plus a little extra if needed

For the garlic butter topping:

  • 4 tablespoons butter, melted
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon Italian seasoning (optional)

How to Make Olive Garden-Style Italian Breadsticks

Step 1: Activate the yeast.

Add the warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast to a large mixing bowl. Stir gently and let the mixture sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy. Make sure the water is warm, not hot.

Step 2: Make the dough.

Add the olive oil and salt to the yeast mixture. Gradually add the bread flour, one cup at a time, mixing until a soft dough forms. Start with four cups and add extra flour only if necessary.

Step 3: Knead the dough.

Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic. The dough should be soft and slightly tacky.

Step 4: Let the dough rise.

Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm place for about one hour, or until doubled in size.

Step 5: Shape the breadsticks.

Gently punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a breadstick about 6–8 inches long. Arrange them on a parchment-lined baking sheet.

Step 6: Let them rise again.

Cover the shaped breadsticks and let them rest for another 20–30 minutes until puffy. Meanwhile, preheat your oven to 425°F.

Step 7: Prepare the garlic butter.

In a small bowl, combine the melted butter, garlic powder, salt, and optional Italian seasoning. Mix well and set aside.

Step 8: Bake the breadsticks.

Bake at 425°F for 12–15 minutes, or until lightly golden on top. Avoid overbaking if you want that soft, fluffy texture.

Step 9: Brush with garlic butter.

As soon as the breadsticks come out of the oven, generously brush them with the garlic butter. For even more flavor, brush them a second time after five minutes.

My Secret to Soft, Buttery Breadsticks

The secret to delicious homemade breadsticks is keeping the dough soft, allowing it enough time to rise, and avoiding overbaking. Brushing the breadsticks with garlic butter while they’re still hot helps give them that wonderful buttery flavor.

If you want to keep them extra soft, loosely cover them with foil for 5–10 minutes after baking.

What to Serve with Italian Breadsticks

These homemade breadsticks pair beautifully with spaghetti and meatballs, chicken Parmesan, lasagna, creamy Alfredo pasta, or a warm bowl of tomato soup. You can also serve them with marinara or Alfredo sauce for dipping.

Checking My Character: Choosing Patience and Kindness When Frustration Rises

What’s up, wonderful, amazing, sweet, and lovely people? How are you all doing today? I hope you’re having an amazing day, and whatever you do, don’t let anybody steal your joy! Welcome back to Maryam’s Joyful Life. It is a beautiful day, and I am super excited to be here with you today for a little honest heart-to-heart.

Today, I want to share a moment of personal reflection about my character, patience, and how easy it is to let frustration get the best of us if we aren't watchful.

The Pre-K Pickup Routine

If you are a parent, you know the drill with school drop-offs and dismissals. At my kids' school, I pick them up through the Pre-K dismissal lane during the late pickup window. The rule is simple: you have to be in line by 3:30 PM. If you aren't there by then, the office calls your phone at 3:45 PM, and you have to park, walk inside, and sign all the paperwork to sign them out.

I understand the system and respect the rules. So far, I’ve only been late once—and that was because I got delayed while getting new tires installed on my truck. It took longer than expected, and even though I rushed over, it hit 3:45 PM, so I parked, went inside, signed them out, and took my babies home. No problem.

Because I don't like being inconvenienced or having to park and sign out, I make a conscious effort to arrive early every single day. Usually, the staff has the kids walking out right around 3:27 PM, and I'm sitting right there waiting for them to hop in.

The Moment the Fire Rose

The other day, I drove the car over early, expecting everything to run like clockwork.

  • 3:27 PM came and went—no kids.

  • 3:28 PM, the staff walked inside.

  • 3:29 PM rolled around, and people were just looking at me.

  • By 3:31 PM, nothing was moving.

Suddenly, a wave of intense frustration washed over me. In my mind, I started calculating: If I had been late by even one minute, I’d be forced to go inside, do paperwork, and jump through hoops. But when I show up early, I’m left sitting here waiting!

Before I knew it, I hopped out of the car, marched straight up to the entrance door, knocked, and blurted out, "Where are my kids?"

Right as I knocked and the door opened, the staff was already leading the kids out. But inside, I felt like I was breathing smoke and fire. I was ready to argue. My face probably looked like pure thunder.

Looking in the Mirror: Choosing Grace Over Rage

I got back into the car with the kids, buckled everyone in, and took a deep breath. As the adrenaline cooled down, I looked in the mirror and had an honest conversation with myself:

Could I have been more patient? Just a little bit more patient to see what was happening instead of charging up to the door demandingly?

The truth was: Yes, I could have.

Two or three minutes of delay wasn't going to ruin my life, but charging up with anger could have easily ruined someone else's entire workday. Those teachers and staff members are working hard, managing countless children, and doing their best.

Our reactions have power. In any given moment, the energy we bring can either make someone’s day better or make it significantly worse.

Moving Forward With Intention

Starting today, I’m holding myself to a higher standard of grace:

  1. Give grace for delays: If dismissal is running behind, pause, breathe, and extend the benefit of the doubt.

  2. Watch the tone: If I ever need to step up to the door to ask a question, I will do it with calm words, a warm smile, and patience.

  3. Guard your character: Never let an inconvenience turn you into someone you don't want to be.

Let’s choose kindness, even in uncomfortable and frustrating situations. Character isn't proven when everything goes smoothly—it’s proven in how we respond when things get delayed.

Have an amazing day, keep walking in love, and never let anyone steal your joy!
