How to Stop Comparing Yourself

What’s up, my wonderful, amazing, sweet, and lovely people! 💕

Welcome back to Maryam’s Joyful Life Blog.

Today I want to talk about something that sneaks into our hearts and minds far too often: comparison. Comparing yourself to others is the dumbest idea ever—because the truth is, the people you compare yourself to can’t even compete with themselves. We are dynamic human beings, always changing, always growing, and doing the best we can in any given moment. Your “best” won’t always look the same—and that’s perfectly okay.

Comparison Steals Joy

I believe one of the fastest roads to depression is constantly comparing yourself to others. There will always be people whose expectations you’ll never be able to live up to—and that’s a big enough reason to stop trying.

Here’s the truth:

  • You can learn from others without trying to be a copycat.
  • When you try to live life exactly like someone else, it’s a form of stealing. And we all know stealing is wrong.
  • You were created to be authentically you.

If you’re surrounded by people who want you to be exactly like them, pause and ask yourself: How is that going for me? Probably not too well, because deep down, there’s something in each of us that refuses to be tamed.

Be Authentically You

You are unique. Your uniqueness blossoms only when you allow yourself to be the person God created you to be. That doesn’t happen by mimicking someone else—it happens when you embrace yourself fully.

Yes, you can learn from others. Yes, you can be inspired by their journey. But don’t steal their life—and don’t let them steal yours.

One Day at a Time

Be free from people one day at a time by choosing you. Be the most authentic version of yourself. It might be hard at first, but you are more than capable. We all are. Great goals, peace, and true joy come from embracing your authenticity—not from being a shadow of someone else.

Learn from the mistakes of others, make better decisions, and keep striving to be better than you were yesterday, not better than someone else.

Don’t let anyone steal your joy! ✨

When Trying Something New Goes Spicy 🌶️🔥

What’s up wonderful, amazing, sweet, and lovely people!

Today, I have a hilarious (and slightly mouth-burning) story to share with you. You know how I’m always telling you not to let fear of the unknown keep you from experiencing something new? Well… let’s just say my sweetman and I really lived that lesson today.

We were at Nam Dae Mun and spotted some Asian noodles we hadn’t tried before. My sweetman, being the adventurous foodie he is, decided he wanted to try the hottest flavor they had. He was so confident—he didn’t even flinch when he picked the spiciest option on the shelf.

When we got home, he looked at me with a mischievous smile and said, “Babe, you try it first.”

And me, being me, I said, “Sure!” without hesitation.

Friends… the first kick of spice hit me like a playful punch to the mouth. 🥵 I instantly reached for my water. That should have been my warning sign right there.

Then it was his turn. He took a big forkful, chewed slowly… and then sprinted downstairs to get a glass of milk. 😂 He came back shaking his head, saying, “This should be illegal. You should have to sign a waiver before eating it.”

Of course, he handed me the rest of the bowl because he couldn’t handle another bite. And of course, I ate it—because despite the burn, it was so flavorful! But yes, I did make him bring me some milk, too.

It’s crazy how something can be so delicious and so dangerously spicy at the same time.

So here’s the takeaway: Don’t let the fear of something new scare you away from an amazing experience—even if it comes with a little heat. You never know, you might find a new favorite… or at least a good story to laugh about later.

💬 Would you try a dish like this?

And speaking of trying something new…

How to Overcome Hard Times and Keep Your Joy

Hello, wonderful, amazing, sweet, and lovely people!

How y’all doing today? I hope you’re having an amazing day. I also hope nothing has stolen your joy. Welcome to Maryam’s Joyful Life!

Today is a beautiful day, and I want to thank you for stopping by to check out my blog. I appreciate you more than you know.

Today, I want to talk about something we all face at some point: how to overcome hard times.

My Story

I’ve been through hard times—and let me tell you, they are not fun at all. But one thing I know for sure is this: nothing lasts forever, including your struggles.

Years ago, I went through a season of deep pain—divorce, betrayal, and so many overwhelming challenges at once. It was so easy to keep breaking my own heart by focusing on what was going wrong. But I quickly realized that staying in that mental space wasn’t going to change anything—it would only keep me hurt and heartbroken.

So I made a decision: I wasn’t going to let my heartbreak define me.

What Helped Me Through

I prayed. I prayed hard. I called on God and cried. I listened to uplifting music. And, even though it wasn’t easy, I asked for help.

I know how scary it can be to reach out when you’re worried about what people might think. But if you’re truly struggling, please—ask for help. Don’t let fear of judgment keep you silent.

We’re not meant to live this life struggling alone. God uses people to help us.

At first, I stayed quiet. But the longer I stayed silent, the more those who hurt me seemed to feel like they were winning. And that silence gave them room to keep oppressing me. But when I opened up—when I started talking about what I was going through and asking for help—God stepped in.

He used people I didn’t even know to bless me. Even when others tried to sabotage those blessings, God turned it around. In fact, the more they talked, the more help came my way—it was like they were giving me free advertising for God’s goodness.

If You’re Going Through a Difficult Time

Maybe you’re a single mom, or maybe you’re just facing something that feels impossible. Here’s what I want you to remember: You will get through this.

Here’s what to do:

  • Pray. Tell God you can’t handle it alone, and ask Him for help.
  • Ask for help from people you trust. Even if it’s just one or two people—reach out.
  • Keep imagining a better future. Picture yourself where you want to be.
  • Give thanks in advance. Thank God for what He’s going to do, even before it happens.
  • Don’t let the pain define you. Go for walks, sing, journal, and keep moving forward.
  • Surround yourself with encouragers. Be around people who pray for you, lift you up, and remind you of your worth.
  • Ask for prayers. Pray over yourself and meditate on God’s promises.

My Prayer for You

If you’re reading this right now, I want you to know—I’m praying for you. I pray that God will bless you abundantly, that favor will locate you, and that the Lord will make a way where there seems to be no way.

I pray He brings blessings into your life like you’ve never experienced before, and that one day you’ll look back on this moment and give thanks—because this was the turning point.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
